The same rule applies for books. For the serious bibliophile, there’s nothing like a trip to a book fair to get you all excited. It’s better than a trip to the bookstore.
Here are some of the most popular book fairs happening all around the world.
World Book Fair
The World Book Fair started in 1972 and since then, it has been held every year in India. It is organized by the National Book Trust and is currently the largest book fair in the country. It is so big that it gets the support of neighbouring countries and a lot of people travel into India for it. The book fair was also established to support the growing markets of other countries by inviting publishers from eighteen different countries to take part in the event.
Frankfurt Book Fair
This is probably the world’s largest trade fair for books. Held every October in Frankfurt Am Main, Germany, the Frankfurt Book Fair invites representatives from various book publishing and multimedia companies around the world to showcase their products and provide a venue where they can also establish publishing rights and licensing agreements with one another. It is organized by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association and runs for five days. It accommodates more than seven thousand exhibitors from over a hundred countries all over the world.
Turin International Book Fair
If you happen to be in Italy in May, you may want to take a peek at what publishing groups are offering at the Turin International Book Fair in Turin. This trade fair was founded in 1988 and has been receiving a lot of appreciation from visitors all over the world. It’s the largest book fair in the country and is held each year. The book fair receives 1,200 exhibitors and more than three hundred thousand visitors every year.
London Book Fair
Every year, come March, 23,000 publishers, booksellers, literary agents, librarians and media suppliers from over a hundred countries come together to showcase their latest products at the London Book Fair. The event offers a venue for local and foreign publishers to market their upcoming titles and even sell or purchase translation rights for volumes coming from other publishers.
Taipei International Book Exhibition
This event is organized by the Government Information Office and the Taipei Book Fair Foundation and is currently the fifth largest book fair in the world. It started in 1987 and since then, it has been held annually each January. The book fair was mainly a venue for copyright trading between international publishers.
There are many other trade fairs that you will probably be interested in visiting. Hardly any month in the year would pass by without one or other of these book fairs happening somewhere in the world.
